About CarRentalZA

CarRentalZA is an independent South African information service about hiring a car. We are not a rental company or a booking agent, and we do not hold a fleet, take bookings or handle your money.

The advertised daily rate is the smallest part of what car hire costs. The deposit held against your card, the excess you carry if the car is damaged, the mileage limit, the fuel policy and the paperwork for crossing a border all matter more, and none of them show up in a price comparison. We put those details in one place, in plain language.

What we cover

CarRentalZA is built around three things. The first is the rental companies: we set out what each operator offers, what deposit and driver age they ask for, whether they allow one-way or cross-border hire, and where they have branches. The second is places: car hire in each major South African city and at OR Tambo, King Shaka and Lanseria, including what collection is actually like and what the surrounding roads demand of a car. The third is the rules: debit cards and deposits, drivers under 25, excess and waivers, fuel policies, tolls, traffic fines, cross-border permits, and long-term monthly rental.

How we keep it accurate

Contact numbers, branch and airport lists and rental rules are checked against each operator's own website, and the source is linked beside them. Road and airport facts come from South African authorities such as the Road Traffic Management Corporation, SANRAL and Airports Company South Africa. Rates and terms change often and vary by branch and season, so every page carries a "last updated" date and we ask you to confirm the current price and conditions with the operator before you book. Where we describe typical daily rates, we say plainly that they are indicative national ranges, not quotes, and we do not publish per-company prices.

We deliberately flag the things that catch people out at the counter: a deposit larger than expected, a debit card refused, a young-driver surcharge, mileage limits on a long trip, and gravel-road restrictions that quietly void cover. We would rather a page warn you than push you toward a booking.

Our editorial standards

We write in plain language, we do not invent branch addresses, phone numbers or prices, and we do not present indicative figures as firm quotes. Where a policy varies by branch or season we say so rather than guessing. Pages are reviewed and refreshed as terms change, and the date on each page reflects its most recent review.
