SANI SIXT car rental in South Africa

SIXT is a global rental brand, but it does not run every market with its own company. SANI Car Rental has been in business since 1997, is a B-BBEE Level 1 South African independent, and became SIXT's franchise partner for South Africa and Namibia from 1 November 2024. Its group also includes Sani Adventure, which rents Britz 4x4s, Maui motorhomes and motorbikes, and Sani Fleet.

Both names refer to the same local business, which is why search demand splits between SIXT car rental Cape Town and SANI SIXT car rental. When you book, read the terms on the local site rather than the international one. The brand is shared, the contract is local.

A franchised operation differs from a directly owned one in ways that reach your wallet. Terms are local, so deposit sizes, excess levels and driver age rules come from SANI SIXT, not from SIXT in Europe.

Loyalty is worth asking about. SANI SIXT describes its own loyalty programme, where members earn free upgrades and rental days, and an archived copy of its home page shows a SIXT Loyalty Programme tile. If you hold SIXT status from another country, ask in writing whether it is recognised here before you rely on it.

SANI SIXT accepts credit cards, hybrid cheque cards and debit cards, which is unusual enough to be worth knowing about if you do not have a credit card. The cardholder must be present at collection. The security deposit depends on the card type, and a debit-card deposit is debited from your account, then refunded after any charges within 14 working days of return.

Booking online takes 5% or 100% of the rental value up front. The rest, plus a security deposit quoted at booking, is paid at collection. SANI SIXT releases a credit-card hold within 3 working days, and your bank usually frees it within 10 working days. No rand deposit figure appears on the pages we could read, so ask for it.

Age is the friendliest rule. Renters and additional drivers must be at least 21 with an unendorsed licence held for more than one year. Under-21s who have held an unendorsed licence for more than two years can still rent, subject to a Young Driver Surcharge, and no rand amount is published for it. Foreign licences not in English need an English international licence.

For cross-border trips you fill in the online Cross Border Form. The borders offered are Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Mozambique. SANI SIXT vets the request at collection, and the pages we could read state no fee, so ask what applies to your route.

For a one-way rental, the booking widget lets you choose a drop-off location separate from pick-up. No one-way fee or rule appears on the pages we could read, so ask for the fee at booking and check it before you confirm a long leg.

The live SANI SIXT site blocks automated checks, so the contact details and rules here come from archived copies dated between September 2025 and January 2026. An archived August 2026 copy of the home page shows a redesign in the style of SIXT's own site, so terms may have changed since. Ask four questions and get the answers by email. What is the deposit hold for your vehicle group. What is the standard excess in rand and what does reducing it cost per day. Whether any SIXT membership, corporate code or prepaid international booking is honoured locally. And what happens on fuel: cars are given full, and if SANI SIXT has to refuel you pay a 10% fuel admin fee (excluding VAT) on top of the fuel.

SANI SIXT suits travellers who want the SIXT brand and its premium fleet association, who need a debit card option or are under 21 with a licence held for more than two years, and who are comfortable dealing with a local franchise partner rather than a global corporate desk.

It lists airport collection at OR Tambo, Cape Town, King Shaka, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, George, East London, Nelspruit, Lanseria, Mthatha and Polokwane, so it can compete with Avis, Hertz and Europcar on coverage. Price the same dates at three operators and compare the deposit, excess and cross-border terms as well as the daily rate.
