Most visitors arriving by air collect at OR Tambo instead, which is about an hour and a half away on the N4 and offers a far wider choice. If you are heading on to Kruger, that also lets you pick the vehicle you actually want for the park.

Before you go anywhere unsurfaced, read the gravel clause in your rental agreement. Damage on unsurfaced roads is commonly excluded, and mine access roads are exactly the sort of ground where that exclusion bites.
